You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero

You Are a Badass is a personal development book focused on bettering your life by altering your perception of the world around you and the environment that you’re in. There is a spiritual element to Sincero’s advisory but it’s kept pretty tame and doesn’t detract from the book’s overall message, even if you are not a spiritual or religious person. It tackles everything from financial management to career choices to interpersonal relationships and weaves every aspect of an individual’s life together in a way that is easy to understand and digest.

Jen Sincero is a success coach and a public speaker. She does seminars and public appearances in addition to writing novels and newsletters. The majority of the book draws on anecdotes from Sincero’s own life and serves to reaffirm the value of every piece of advice she offers. Many of the experiences Sincero tells in the book are very personal versions of common life events that many people either have gone through or will go through at some time in their lives. But no story is wasted; each and every one is relative to the chapter she has written it into. Some are humorous, some are said, all are inspiring in some way.

Overall, I would call this a pretty awesome book. 10/10! I read it less than a week (though I was travelling for some part of that). Nonetheless, it is not overwhelming or difficult to work through. At the end of it, I did feel a difference in the way I was interpreting things that were happening in my life. I think I have adopted a better outlook after reading this book and I would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting to find ways to better themselves through positive thinking methods and action.

I read a lot of books at once, mainly because I get bored with the same style of writing and content after a chapter or two and so I have to be able to hop from book to book within any given reading session. Right now, I have about six books I’m working on. However, I think my next personal development book will be a little less “self-help” and a bit more educational: CURE by Jo Marchant. All about the mind’s power over the body, particularly in the field of medicine. That being said, Sincero’s other book You Are a Badass at Making Money is definitely on my list of titles to pick up the next time I find myself at the bookstore.

If you know of any other personal development or self-help books that I should check out, let me know in the comments section!
